Did we meet in the summer of 1998 when I was walking round Wales with a
group associated with the Sacred Land Project? As I recall, the
restoration of the well was under discussion then, but there was some
local unease because it had been such a powerful cursing well. But it
seems an excellent idea and it could be linked with publicity for the
church as well. You could get in touch with John Winton of the Churches
Tourism Network for ideas about funding etc - email him at
[log in to unmask] - and I think John Smith of the Sacred Land Project is
still at [log in to unmask] .
(For the benefit of other list members - there's a bit about the well
and some very inadequate photos on my Cistercian Way web site at
http://cistercian-way.newport.ac.uk/place.asp?PlaceID=247 )

Subject: Ffynnon Elian, North Wales, restoration project
Dear All,
I've been a subscriber to this page for a while now, and want to know if
there might be anyone who might want to be invoved in the restoration of
the
well of St Elian, here in North Wales. It was once the 'blue ribbon' of
cursing wells, Francis Jones tells us, has a long and well-documented
history and I think needs to be looked after a bit.I'm currently
studying
the well's history at Bangor Uni, have access to the well and would
welcome
interest and expertise in person or via the page.
Diolch yn fawr; thanks very much
