---------------
Lecturer in the History of the English Language

Applications are invited from candidates with a primary research interest
and proven research and teaching record in the History of the English
Language. An additional interest in bibliography and/or corpus-based
historical linguistics would be an advantage. The Department would like to
appoint someone who will help to bridge the literature and language
interests in the Department, and the successful candidate will be expected
to contribute fully to the teaching of literature as well as language.

Appointment will be at an appropriate point of the Lecturer A scale (UCL
grade 7, GBP 31,685-£34,624 + GBP 2,714 London Allowance). The appointment
will start in October 2008.

The UCL English Department was awarded an ‘Excellent’ grade in the 1994
Teaching Quality Assessment, and a 5*A in the 1996 and 2002 Research
Assessment Exercises.

Candidates should send a copy of their c.v., the names and contact details
of two referees, a covering letter, and completed equal opportunities
form, by e-mail to Kathryn Metzenthin, Department Administrator,
[log in to unmask] by the closing date. Applicants should ask their
referees to submit references direct to the department by the closing
date.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 31 January 2008.

Shortlisting will take place on 8 February 2008. Interviews will be held
on Friday 7 March 2008. Those invited to attend for interview will be
asked to submit a short piece of written work by 19 February.
