ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE THIRD EVENT IN THE 'DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE' SERIES
AT WARWICK UNIVERSITY ON 17TH AND 18TH JULY 2008
What about Harm Reduction?
In July 2008, we will be returning to Warwick University to discuss harm reduction, what does it
mean, how does it apply to different fields of work and how it can be practically implemented.
This promises to be an important conference at an important time with the launch of the new UK Drug
Strategy in 2008 and the ongoing implementation of the UK Alcohol Strategy.
This event will also reflect back from 'Harm Reduction 2008: IHRA's 19th International Conference
(which takes place in Barcelona in May 2008) to highlight the key messages from the International
Harm Reduction movement.
The conference will focus on four different sectors and how they can, (and must) interact and work
together to provide the best services:
Arrest and the Courts
Prisons
Probation and Aftercare
Alcohol and Drug Community Treatment Programmes
The programme will contain a mix of interactive plenary sessions, workshops and presentations
including:
Never mind the Rhetoric, What is Harm Reduction?
Examples of Best Practice across the four sectors
Alcohol Interventions (how to do big things with little money and even less legislation)
Integrating Drug Treatment systems
Working Partnership
Confirmed speakers include:
Professor Gerry Stimson (IHRA), Paul Hayes (NTA), Richard Bradshaw (Offender Health), Steve Hamer
