Paul,
IRAF interoperability isn't needed for JAC, which funds the residual
Starlink programming work to support its pipelines and data products,
especially the spectral cubes from JCMT. IRAF interoperability was one
of the casualties of Starlink's closure.
To quote Tim Jenness in a recent reply on the same topic:
"The current situation is that IRAF/Starlink interoperability is not
supported. We didn't put the software in to the source code repository
and getting it working again is an extremely low priority (and I don't
think any of the programmers we have actually know how it works)."
> Are there any plans to include this?
No.
PPARC's view in 2005, despite the findings of the Hewett Panel, was that
the community can support its software requirements without any central
co-ordination. In that vein we still have the original source code if
any keen volunteers want to have a go at regenerating IRAF
interoperability. No doubt there would be some help available through
the Starlink development e-mail list.
