it now occurs to me, that you may be interested in SD over voxels?
The routine I've sent uses spm_global to get a global mean value per
image. SD is then calculated over the time series, which requires at
least 3 time points for a atandard deviation to make sense.
for SD over voxels of a singel image you may use these commands:
>> V=spm_vol(spm_select(1,'IMAGE'));
>> M=spm_read_vols(V);
>> SD=std(M(:))
