Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship for up to 3 years
to work with Prof. Peter Bernath in the Department of Chemistry. The
project is funded by NERC (UK Natural Environment Research Council) to
work with high resolution infrared Fourier transform spectra of the
Earth’s atmosphere recorded by the ACE satellite (Atmospheric Chemistry
Experiment, see http://www.ace.uwaterloo.ca
<http://www.ace.uwaterloo.ca/>). The aim of this interdisciplinary
project is to record laboratory infrared spectra of hydrocarbons such as
propane and to retrieve atmospheric concentration profiles of organic
species from ACE spectra. The global distributions of these organic
molecules will be compared with the predictions of state-of-the-art
chemical transport models.
Applicants should have a PhD degree in chemistry, physics, atmospheric
science or a related discipline with experience in molecular
spectroscopy. Experience in atmospheric science, remote sensing and
computer programming would be advantageous, but not essential.
