Research Associate in Social Research (ref. 13665) *School for Policy
Studies*
The University of Bristol has been awarded a US$13 million grant from the
Global Development Program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to lead
the Aquatest Research Project, an international, multi-disciplinary
consortium. The project aims to deliver Aquatest, a small, easy to use,
low-cost device for testing water quality in developing countries (see
www.bristol.ac.uk/aquatest).
The project will include research and development of the Aquatest device;
field studies in India and South Africa, including impact on health and
behaviour; user needs, market analysis, and the development of a
commercialisation strategy; and an action plan for Aquatest's long-term
uptake.
The School for Policy Studies is seeking to recruit a social science
researcher with knowledge of the relationships between water and health in
the developing world. You will work on the planning, design and analysis of
field trials of the Aquatest device in India and South Africa, and a review
of research evidence for policy in the field of water testing (national and
international).
This post is one of a number to be advertised within the multidisciplinary
Aquatest team at the University of Bristol. This team will also be asked to
work closely with colleagues across the Aquatest consortium. The consortium
includes several other Universities (University of California, Berkeley,
University of Cape Town and University of Southampton), the Health
Protection Agency (UK), World Health Organisation, PATH (USA), the Aquaya
Institute (USA), and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
The successful candidate will be appointed on a fixed term contract until
30th Sept 2011.
