Thanks, Fred. I think you said it there, 'full of apprehension'. I didn't
even admit it to myself, but my subconscious was allknowing, as usual. The
dog part is laden with meaning for me - broken marriage, dragged through the
mud, running on three legs, etc - and the nakedness is fine at a party of
naked guests but taking my unconventional earlier-in-life behaviour into an
academic cocktail party at an older age shows how out of place I feel there.
(I get a great kick out of David Lodge, btw.) And drunk? I haven't had a
drink in 28 years, so it sure would be a calamity if I picked up one now!
But the poem sure needs work, and I will work on it. If it comes up shining,
I'll post it again in days to come. I am still more than happy to receive
feedback - it is an absolute first draft.
