From our aussie summer to you northerners...
[from a Yarra Valley winery newsletter]
What's happening IN the winery?
We asked our winemakers.....
'Throughout January momentum has been
building rapidly towards vintageŠ
adrenaline and caffeine will slowly
be used to replace sleep!
Our team of four will more than double
to nine people. We have begun sampling
all our vineyards weekly to taste berries
and test for ripeness, so we can predict
the perfect time to start picking.
At this stage it looks like the first fruit
off the vines will be pinot gris and chardonnay,
in mid to late February, although this may change
depending on weather conditions.
The barrel hall is nearly empty of 2007 wines,
which are being bottled as we write!
All that remains are clean, empty barrels,
ready for 2008 juice.
We're gearing up for a big vintage this year,
with a lot more tonnage of fruit compared to
the frost and drought affected 2007 yields.
It's a great time to view us in action
so feel free to stop by anytime from February to May,
and you will see us running around frantically
processing fruit and fermenting juice to wine.
Hard work, good tunes, loads of coffee,
plenty of carbs, no sleep,
and lots of laughs to come!'
