Hi Tracy,
I've not come across this substance. As a general rule we hardly ever
exclude pregnant workers from performing any of their usual work tasks
as risk management strategies are usually adequate. We have had some
managers preventing their staff from doing work tasks such as
administering certain medications because those medications were
contraindicated in pregnancy but when challenged about this they've
realised that they've often been too over-cautious.
If you consider the route of exposure/ absorption, the potential dose
absorbed and the likelihood of this actually happening then most of the
time there is little or no risk at all.
Happy new year
Paul

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Dematology - pregnant nurses
Happy New Year
has anyone dealt with pregnant nurses in dermatology working with
Psoralen?
It is used in a solution in a bath, the nurses in question would be
wearing gloves and should not come into conatct with the drug. I have
googles it and the effects on pregnancy are unknown, and pregant women
are not given the drug. However, the manager of the dermatology
de[partmetn has never has nurses restricted from working with psoralen,
provided they follow the correct procedure.
Any info on this would be excellent.
Many thanks
