I wondered if all my NHS OH colleagues were aware of the DoH document '
Pandemic Flu, Guidance for primary care trusts and primary care
professionals on the provision of healthcare in a community setting in
England'... available as a download from the DoH publications website.
It details in Section 8 that ( for those of us who provide OH to PCTs as
well as our NHS Trust) 'NHS occupational health departments should
provide the professional lead in planning for and ensuring the delivery
of, immunisation of those NHS staff groups for whom they are
responsible.' The Govt has a limited stock of A/H5N1 vaccine held
specifically for protection of healthcare workers; the vaccination
regime is 2 doses, 3 weeks apart. The document makes interesting
reading!

Hi Glenn
We have never been asked to work on the wards and I would certainly
find it
difficult - too long away from front line. Although we have been told
that
if pandemic flu evry struck we would be asked to return to frontline -
no
mention of update in training etc.

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] NHS Staff and ward work
Hello
Can I ask my NHS colleagues if you've been asked to work on wards
during
the crisis on beds and to help with staffing levels?
If you have been asked, have you accepted or refused? Have you been
offered
training/updates?
Or is this not a global issue affecting OH staff in the NHS?
regards
Glenn
