Hi Clare
I have in the past faxed the GP the original sicknote which we believe
to have been altered for confirmation that this was done by the GP (our
local GP's used to sign changes to sicknotes) or I have spoken to a
"receptionist" and you will be amazed at what they will tell you.
Please note that I do tell them that I dont have written consent to
discuss the health problem and simply want the changes verifying but
this doesnt seem to matter to some they read the GP note entries
anyway!
Jacqui
(On a professional note - I advise the "receptionist" when she/he is
giving me "too much info" and on occasions have written to any
surgeries - one surgery told me over the phone that a chap had had his
appendix removed 3 years earlier when I was clarifying what was
illegible on the current sick note..she didnt understand why I was
upset for being told this info with the phrase "but you are a nurse...
you keep medical information confidential!" I had to write on that
occasion as she really didnt get that I didnt have consent to know this
and that she didnt know who I was as I was on the phone and I was
concerned that this could have been MY information she was passing on)
