Dear all,
A couple of extra thoughts.
Firstly, is a medical report required? If the candidate has given a
full disclosure and is well without the need for adjustments, what
benefit is there from obtaining such a report? Would you ask for a
report for everyone with say diabetes? Nothing beats a good nursing
assessment and you may well find that that is all that is required.
Joseph's point about joint working with their HIV specialist team if
there is a health issue is useful and can be replicated with other
health conditions eg cardiac rehab, diabetes team etc.
Also, it may not be necessary to refer to an OHP unless you required an
additional medical assessment unless it was your organisational policy
to refer every HIV positive employee to the OHP. It may be sufficient
that the person has identified themselves to the OH service and that
they are obtaining appropriate support.
There may be an issue of disclosure of a blood borne virus being
necessary in the event of a significant incident and the organisation
should already have arrangements for the confidential assessment of BBV
risk.
Best wishes
