Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] pre employment screening for students
I find it very surprising that you do not screen student nurses, we used
to paper screen initially and those who had identified previous history
of mental health problems had then to be assessed due to the Beverly
Allett case, also how do you assess for those who would need adjustment
under the DDA?
Regards
Pauline
Hello all
I work in a hospital and have a physio manager who wants all her
students
and work experience people to have pre-employment screening. She says
H&S
say it needs doing in case they have a medical problem such as epilepsy,
have a fit and we're not aware of it. I said if someone had a fit
they're
hardly going to ring OH to check their files & what if it happens
outside
OH hours?! I also told her the students were screened through uni and
suggested she do risk assessments if she wants to cover her back.
Unfortunately she's taking some convincing so I wondered if anyone else
screens these people and if not under what guidance - she likes evidence
not just my say so! Or maybe I'm wrong and should be doing them. We
don't
do the student nurses so its an unequitable policy at present.
Thank you
Kay
