We have had mutterings, don't remember why the need was felt, but I
would work on the wards so long as I was there as a HCA not a trained
nurse, otherwise I think I would be overstepping my competancy (alot
slips the mind in 7 years).
I actually feel that in crisis it all hand to the pump it is after all
the NHS! however if it is something that has been rumbling for a while,
hospital management should have formulated a plan to deal with it.
incidentally I was asked to do this years ago as an ITU nurse and work
on the wards and I said the same thing, the hospital management felt I
was being unreasonable, as my knowledge they felt was greater than a
ward nurse, but they soon changed their tune when they realised that it
took me 6 hours to do a drug round as more than one patient confused the
hell out of me!

Hello
Can I ask my NHS colleagues if you've been asked to work on wards
during
the crisis on beds and to help with staffing levels?
If you have been asked, have you accepted or refused? Have you been
offered
training/updates?
Or is this not a global issue affecting OH staff in the NHS?
regards
Glenn
