Yes, Elizabeth,
Olga Gebauer was indeed involved in that international midwives congress.
With regards to attendance I have the same information.
I'm happy to write a short news item for the ICM journal...

Gertrud, would you kindly write a short news item for the ICM journal about
this celebration, when it has taken place? I believe the midwife role models
from the past can still inspire midwives in the present! I wonder if Olga
Gebauer was involved in the international midwives congress held in Berlin
in 1900? some of the ICM historical documents refer to this meeting, saying
that 1000 midwives from nine countries attended.

Dear Polona and Ans,
there is another one who organized the first midwifery journal and the first
national meeting of midwives in Germany. Her name is Olga Gebauer
(1858-1922). This year there will be a big celebration of her 150th birthday
in Lutherstadt Wittenberg on March 1st.
Greetings,
Gertrud

Hi Polona,
Here are three to start with:
- Louise de Bourgeios, Paris, France
- Justine Siegemundin, Germany
- Catharina Schrader, Holland
All lived about 1600-1700. Usually midwifery books refer to much
further in the bible with Schifra and Pua (and so on), but at least
these were nearby..
I know for sure there are books about both Catharina Schrader (also
in English) and Justine Siegemundin ( I believe only in German). I do
not quite know about the literature on Louise the Bourgeios.
Good luck,
Ans

Betreff: famous midwives
Hello!
As a part of my PhD thesis about the professionalization of
midwifery, I
would also like to mention history of midwifery and famous midwives
that
were of great importance for the development of the profession. I'm
aware of
the Agnodice, but I do not know any others. Can you help me? Is
there also a
picture of them?
Best wishes,
Polona, midwife from Slovenia
