A History of the English Parish by N J G Pound Cambridge University Press
2000 has a map of the Salisbury parish boundaries at Page 139. It is
pointed out that Bishops could create new parishes for new towns and that
the Bishop of Salisbury created two new parishes as well as upgrading the
status of a parochial chapelry within the parent parish of St Martins for
the new town of Salisbury he had founded. The map shows the cathedral
precinct as extra parochial so there would be no parish officials for that
area.
