GIS Trainer / Analyst
Salary: £25,134 per annum
Geodata Institute / School of Geography
The GeoData Institute, part of the School of Geography, University of
Southampton, provides specialist consultancy and research services in
environmental and spatial information technologies. GeoData provides IT
development, support and training to a broad market sector including
environment, health, development and planning and socio-economics.
We are seeking to recruit a GIS trainer/analyst to join our 9-strong GIS /
database team where you will have the opportunity to work in all aspects of
the GI business. You will deliver and develop our GIS training courses, take
part in our GIS consultancy activity, and will have a key role in the
expansion of GIS and data services within the Institute.
You will have experience of undertaking GIS projects within a UK commercial
environment, including delivery GIS training in ArcGIS, and possibly
MapInfo, and the design and creation of GIS course materials. You should be
an excellent communicator, with the ability to succinctly describe complex
concepts in an accessible way. You should also be able to generate
enthusiasm for GIS and its potential uses.
A proven ability to identify and pursue new business opportunities would be
an advantage, as would the ability to contribute ideas to strategy and
marketing.
You will have good organisational skills, project management and reporting
experience and the role will require extensive liaison with
commercial/consultancy clients, Agency and Local Authorities. You should
have a pragmatic approach to problem solving, with a strong attention to
detail. The position will suit someone who has good experience of GIS
projects but is looking to expand their teaching activity.
