Subject: Free training for disabled and deaf students, staff and
colleagues

Dear Colleagues

Shape is running a number of free seminars in Winter/Spring 2008 for
disabled and deaf people. I hope you will pass on the details of the
seminars to any of your colleagues and students who might be eligible
and interested.

All the seminars are free. Applicants need to live in London and
identify as disabled or deaf. Childcare costs are covered. Access
requirements will be met and organised by Shape.

We also have posters that we can email or post to you.

Upcoming seminars include:

Do you need to raise money for your business ideas?

This one-day course which includes practical and interactive exercises
will give you an overview to fundraising. You'll learn how to find
money, make your case and develop a fundraising strategy.

How to Develop a Fundraising Strategy, 30 January, 10-4pm

Raising money from Charitable Trusts, 23 January, 10-4pm

Funding the Future - Funding Sustainability for your organisation, 17
January, 10-4pm

Do you want to turn your business ideas into a reality?

If you are lost in trying to develop your business, struggling to find
funding or being snowed under by all the paper/forms, then this
seminar is for you!

Business Planning, 18 January, 10-4pm

Do you need help with interviews? Ideas on how to market yourself and
your ideas? Want to know what employers really want?

Run by Nick Goss, who has a wealth of experience in HR and diversity,
specializing in the area of disability. As a full-time wheelchair user
he brings both professional and personal expertise to managing
disability issues positively.

Confidence to Achieve, 30 January or 26 March, 10-4pm

Shape works to the social model of disability whereby disability is
caused by the barriers that exist within society and the way society
is organised, which discriminates against people with impairments and
excludes them from involvement and participation.

The Disability Discrimination Act defines a disabled person as someone
who has a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and
long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal
day-to-day activities.

This project is funded by the London Development Agency (LDA): the
Mayor's agency for sustainable economic development.

Kind Regards
