Subject: OII News [2008.01.28]: Gov2.0 Webcasts Available

Dear Colleagues,

Over 150 people participated on Tuesday in our Government 2.0 event at the Houses of Parliament. Topics ranged from reducing the failure rate of big government IT projects through to the use of designers and 'start-small' evolutionary alternatives to £20bn monsters like the NHS's National Programme for IT and the proposed National Identity Register.

If you want to find out more you can watch video of all of the sessions (see below). Let us know if you disagree with any of the opinions expressed! Thanks again to all of our speakers; to our co-organisers POST; and to everyone who came along and contributed. Thanks also to Microsoft and Kable for sponsoring a drinks reception after the event.

You can read more on my blog:
http://dooooooom.blogspot.com/

Best wishes,
Ian Brown, OII Research Fellow

The event was blogged by Alejandro Ribo-Labastida:
http://people.oii.ox.ac.uk/aribo/

Fragment: 'Tom and William have a very fresh perspective of e-government, and I reckoned that much can be learned from them. William stressed the importance of design and of one single point of access; while Tom advocated for small projects, 'small is beautiful', so 'stop big projects!', he said. He showed how small things can make a difference for citizens with the 'world premiere' of a map that shows where someone can live in London according to the time he/she wants to spend commuting and money he/she wants (or can) spend in a house.'

This event was organised by the OII in partnership with the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST). It took place at Portcullis House on 22 January 2008.
