Hello all,
I'ld like to pick up on just one of Neil's questions: what topics would
be of interest for further discussion?
(though the other questions all address issues we are thinking about, so
do please send us your opinion). A while back I had to provide a short
summary of issues which I thought CETIS should address in the metadata
and repository world. I replied with:
* shaping the next generation of educational metadata e.g. DC abstract
model, DC-LOM convergence, DC-Ed working group.
* new repository interfaces: deposit and exposure constituent parts of
compound objects; and refining existing interfaces for education.
* formal-informal interface, e.g. web 2.0 services layered on formal
repositories.
* understanding the social and other factors that drive and impede
resource sharing (at all levels from personal to international).
* achieving change by embedding lessons learnt into practice. [OK this
one is important but rather motherhood and apple piey]
I think I would add one now, as a refinement/elaboration of the second
and perhaps third points:
* support the integration of repository services with learning environments
- I'm aware of several projects looking at this, but I don't know how
they fit together: are they all trying to do the same thing? are they
complementary? are they using the same approaches? do they know what the
other similar projects are doing? is there any way of getting an
overview of what they are all doing?
Anyway, are these the right sort of issues for CETIS to be looking at?
And for these and whatever other issues need addressing, what is the
best way for CETIS to help? what tools can we use to provide that help?
how can we best keep you informed of progress?
All suggestions welcome!
