Dear all,
I am researching material in order to canvass for a show and symposium
called The Animal Gaze: Contemporary Art and Animal/Human Studies. It will
be held at Unit 2 Gallery and at Sir John Cass (London Metropolitan
University) in Whitechapel, London in November this year.
The subject pans out like this: new art that addresses recent thinking
about animals - art in any medium with the subject of "becoming-animal";
animal rights; posthumanism; companion animals; animal conservation; the
politics of animals; sociological relations between animals and humans,
and the animal as Other.
I should very much like to hear from artists with similar concerns, art
researchers, art professors, art lecturers - anyone who knows of other
artists working in this area. Hence this approach through JISCMAIL. Also
if you know of any promising art postgraduates or undergraduates who are
developing work in this area.
I already have an extensive list of artists who work along these lines, so
your suggestions may well cross over with material I have already. I don't
mind - it's the ones who are new to me that I'd like to find out more
about.
I'd be very grateful for images, website suggestions, ideas, advice. Thank
you. The show will not, however, feature traditional wildlife art or
traditional wildlife photography, as there are many platforms for this
elsewhere already - so I would ask you not to suggest such material.
Please reply to me in person - [log in to unmask] - or if you
wish, add to a general JISCMAIL discussion around this post.
