Hello all,
At the British Cartoon Archive we're currently in the process of
digitising the Carl Giles collection, which, in addition to original
cartoons and press cuttings, contains pieces of Giles' personal
correspondence. We're concerned that if we digitise these letters and
publish them on the Web, we'll be exposing the correspondents' names and
addresses (at the time the letters were written, at least).
We've discussed the possibility of blacking out sections of the
digitised images to obscure the correspondents' details, as well as the
feasibility of contacting the correspondents (or their families), but we
wonder if other institutions have had experience of dealing with privacy
or data protection issues in similar cases.
