Dear Colleagues
Read Times Higher Education (THE) 10-16 January 2008? Remember the front
cover?
Get another perspective on this topical issue - come and join us
for 'Solutions for Success' and see at first hand superb examples of the
school sector and the university sector working together collaboratively,
productively and to great mutual benefit.
This is a real professional development opportunity for both school staff
and university staff - with longer-term, 'partnering up' opportunities.
Remember the repeated ministerial statements of the last few months about
how every secondary school should have a university partner? Come and see
the range of partnerships which can be developed.
Our forthcoming national conference brings university managers,
admissions, academic and school liaison staff together with secondary
school leaders and subject specialists. This is the perfect opportunity
for you to gain insights into:
- The new Extended Project - we know that university staff want to know
more about the skills and knowledge that the EP will develop in applicants
- Partnership working between university subject staff and school subject
staff - inspiring examples for the following subjects: Chemistry, Physics,
Engineering,History, Languages
- Findings of the DCSF funded national research project, led by the 1994
Group of universities, into HE and Diplomas
- Critical thinking throughout the school - yes, it is being taught
- Gifted and Talented: a vision for the future from Dr Geoff Parks
- IAG in schools, guidance for HE advisers
- How a university can work with an academy to mutual benefit
And they are just a few of the electives! Please see attached draft
programme and breakout sheet.
Plenary sessions will include keynotes from the Brian Lightman, President,
Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), Director-General of the
Russell Group, Dr Wendy Piatt, the HE Diploma Champion, Professor Deian
Hopkin, Mary Curnock Cook, Director of Qualifications and Skills, QCA,
Michael Naisbitt, Chair of the SSAT Higher Education Headteacher Steering
Group and Head of Carlton-le-Willows School, Nottingham, Anthony McClaran,
