British Interactive Group Regional Event – BIG FILM-MAKING DAY
Techniquest, Cardiff Bay, Saturday 2nd February 2008, 10-5.
Supported by science made simple and Techniquest
Spaces are limited so book now!
No doubt about it: standing in front of a camera is a world apart from teaching or presenting a live
show to a live audience! Join us at Techniquest in Cardiff for this 1-day video skills workshop.
Facilitated by science TV professional Jonathan Sanderson, you'll:
• Work in small groups to film and edit a short demo-based movie.
• Gain experience of creative teamwork against a tight deadline.
• Learn about copyright and licensing issues, without falling asleep.
• Explore the implications of working in video, from script to performance.
• Increase your confidence in camera skills.
• Learn the 'grammar' of video and editing - why does some stuff look great, and some terrible?
• See web video from the creators' end - what makes films dynamic and compelling?
• Get into techie camera and editing stuff, if you really want to.
• Have a bit of a giggle.
The day will be based on teachers' workshops run as part of the NESTA/ETB/IoP SciCast project: to
have a look at the sort of films we’ll be making visit http://planet-scicast.com.
Films made during the day will be published on the SciCast site and they will reach an audience.
Scary, huh? The exact shape of the day will depend on the participants' wishes; if people want to
focus on presentation skills in the video context then we'll do that; if core video techniques are
more important, fine. So book now and tell us what you want! We're borrowing SciCast's equipment
for the day, so you won't need to bring anything. However, you're welcome to bring your own video
gear if you wish, and you're particularly welcome to bring along a demo or two.
Costs are £25 for BIG members and students, £55 to non-members including one year’s membership of
the British Interactive Group.
Please bring lunch and refreshments or use Techniquest’s cafe.
The event will run from 10am to approximately 5pm. To book a place contact Helen Lloyd BIG
South-West Regional Representative [log in to unmask] Spaces are limited so book early
to avoid disappointment!
This BIG regional event is supported by science made simple, with the venue kindly donated by
Techniquest.
