Further to Beena's comment below, though the BA do not formally offer internships we are a charity and welcome volunteers and this can be arranged to take place with members of staff, for example Regional Officers, working on specific projects and enabling the volunteer to gain vital experience to help them progress in a career in science communication.
Volunteers can also join us as supporters of the BA working with our network of branches. For information about your local branch and their activity you can either contact the branch directly or the relevant Regional Officer. All these contact details are available on the 'In Your Area' section of our website: http://www.the-ba.net/the-ba/InYourArea/index.html In addition to this there are also volunteering opportunities with the Festival of Science, held in September each year, or if you are a scientist you can act as a mentor with CREST award schemes.
If you would like an volunteer placement with the BA please do contact us to enquire.
Kind regards,
Pam

Hi Beatrice
The Society for Applied Microbiology would be a relevant addition to your list. We have numerous grants and awards that we offer to members to promote involvement of undergraduate students, including a "Students into Work"
grant targeting undergraduate students in particular.
If you'd like the details please email me at the address below.
Best wishes,

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Society Database
Dear all,
I'm compiling a database of societies that may be of interest to life science undergraduate students.
I'm covering the society's area of interest, cost/benefits of membership and (most importantly) internship or grant opportunities so that students can be involved in the wider scientific community. To err is human - I would very much appreciate it if you could scan the list of organisations (below) and let me know of any organisations I have inadvertently omitted.
If your organisation might be prepared to offer internships that aren't already detailed on the website then that would be wonderful to know as well.
Best wishes,
Beatrice Downing

Subject: Does anyone need a freelance writer?
Hi,
This is a quick enquiry to the list about opportunities for a freelance science writer - my name is Eleanor Barrie and I've just finished a maste= r's in Science Communication at Imperial College (my first degree was in biology). I've done some science writing in the past, both for websites a= nd other publications, but I'm keen to do more and to work with different groups with an interest in science communication. I've also got some experience in organising science events.=20
If anyone knows of any organisations that are in need of someone like me = I'd be very pleased to hear from you.
My email address is [log in to unmask], and my mobile number is 077=

Many thanks for your time!

**Apologies for cross-posting**
Due to a rearrangement in our friendly team, we now have a vacancy for a full time evaluator starting ASAP and working until the end of June.
Centre of the Cell is a science centre for children aged 9 to 16 and due to open this September. We need someone to run an evaluation programme through the final stages of production of our digital interactives. This will be a full time position and will also involve helping our Learning and Access Manager with outreach and marketing activities.
The job will be based in our Whitechapel office with frequent travel across London to our contractors. We have a website where you can find out more about Centre of the Cell: www.centreofthecell.org.
Telephone or email Katie Chambers (details below) for a job description and more information. We need to move quickly so the closing date for applications is Friday the 18th of January.
Best wishes,
Katie
