I don't know of any research demonstrating one to one
support is not beneficial. I guess you could take a
look at how important the attitude of the mw is and
argue that if you have a controlling, uncaring mw she
would hinder labour and outcomes. Also take a look at
the unassisted birth movement. They specifically
exclude mw from their births and find this beneficial.
