The Arthritis Research Campain has awarded a PhD studentship to explore the
nature, relationships and changes in emotions, beliefs and adjustment upon
diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, using qualitative research methods.
Sequential interviews of newly diagnosed patients will be undertaken to
explore how beliefs and coping change and interact at this crucial time.
The studentship is held by Professor Sarah Hewlett (Nursing and
Rheumatology), Dr Marianne Morris (Psychology), from the University of the
West of England in Bristol, with Professor John Weinman (Psychology, King’s
College Hospital, London). The student will be based in Bristol.
Candidates should hold or expect to obtain a First or Upper Second Class
Honours Degree, or a Master’s degree, in a relevant subject (eg psychology,
health professions, sociology or a health-related topic). Experience of
qualitative research is essential.
