[EMS-NEWS]
six_events 21st - 27th January 2008
“The perception of mundane, everyday actions as modestly artistic
events.”
six_events is a global project by Matthew Lee Knowles which is aimed
at turning ordinary events into performances giving the opportunity
for performers to look for the art and listen to the music around
them, whilst questioning perceptions of art, music and of the self.
Six events; getting on a bus, walking down a road, exploring a
building, buying something in a supermarket, buying a drink in a pub
and standing in a park are to be carried out on six different days at
the end of January (no event on Saturday 26th, final event on Sunday
27th)
Each event contains one or two small tasks; not thinking about how
long you will ride the bus for, clapping once at any time, sitting
down and closing your eyes, discovering an environment, moving
something to an incongruous position, giving away a bought item,
asking a question and looking up at the sky.
Certain details, time and durations, are to be recorded and will go
to writing a new piece of music/performance art which will be
premiered in the Summer.
All participants are invited to record and document their
performances of six_events in any way they wish: photography, films,
poetry, music, recording the sounds, drawing…anything that relates
directly to having taken part in six_events. This will all be
exhibited in February. (event number four ‘Supermarket’ calls for a
receipt to be kept and scanned or sent to Matthew)
six_ events will have hundreds of individual/group performances in
the following locations, correct as of 13/01/08:
Other: England, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Italy, Finland,
