The Scottish Funding Council (SFC) distributes more than £1.6 billion to Scotland’s colleges and universities for teaching and learning, research and other activities in support of Scottish government priorities. There are up to three vacancies for statisticians at the moment, at different grades for recently qualified and experienced statisticians. The minimum point of the lower grade is £17677 pa and the maximum of the higher grade is £30989. Grade and initial salary on the scale will be determined taking qualifications and experience into account .
The work is interesting and varied, involving providing statistical advice and analysis for the purpose of
developing policies and strategies in support of further and higher education in Scotland.
Statistics branch staff undertake projects involving modelling (e.g. logistic regression. multi-level models), imputation, small-area methods etc. We are responsible for large-scale data collection and maintain our own and other large datasets, which we use to produce and develop management information, performance indicators and other publications.
Another important part of our work relates to the construction and operation of funding models, mostly using Microsoft Excel.
