There's nothing more patronizing than asserting that the real issues at
stake are others (the economy, employment, the salary of the academics). It
is usually a very clever and yet common strategy to undermine the very bases
of any claim. It is usually a symptom of the refusal to engage personally
with a debate by sentencing that it is not even worth talking about it. We
have seen it several times....
....It is also quite offensive towards many of those who invest their time
and energies in certain struggles.

Extremely good point made with extreme politeness (more, even, than the post
perhaps deserved). The fact that something isn't of interest to you doesn’t
mean it isn't of interest to anyone; meanwhile, it's condescending in the
extreme (not to say papal) to assert that only you know where the "true"
issues lie.
