It was Solaris. That's what I was fearing deep down - that the code that
writes and reads the .dmp file is some horrible F77 binary writing thing
that looks different depending on how your OS decides to represent FORTRAN
variables.
In fact, I just checked and indeed the .dmp files I created using RH
Linux 9 at JAC still load okay on the systems here (using Debian Etch).
Still, it might not be so hard to fix, as it could just mostly be an
Endianness issue. Maybe.
I need to try to sort this because all of my reduced astronomical data
from my PhD is in .dmp file format created using Solaris.
Do you have any pointers on whereabouts to look in the SPECX code tree to
look into this problem?
An alternative might be to find a Solaris machine with Specx installed
and reload the .dmp files then save them as ndf. I'm not aware that we
have any Solaris machines here...
