A postdoctoral position is available to work on longitudinal multimodal
neuroimaging data in the framework of a multidisciplinary research program
held by Dr Gaël Chételat and Dr Béatrice Desgranges.
This program associates neuropsychological evaluation, FDG-PET, activation
and resting state fMRI as well as structural MRI in various populations
including healthy subjects, and patients with neurodegenerative dementia
(e.g. Alzheimer’s disease). Its main objectives are both to improve early
diagnosis of the diseases and to contribute to our knowledge of their
underlying processes. The study will focus on highlighting the effects of
normal and pathological aging on brain activity and functional
connectivity during rest and during cognitive activity over time, the
relationships between the different neuroimaging modalities (MRI, fMRI and
PET) and the comparison of their accuracy in predicting patient’s clinical
evolution.
The position would be particularly devoted to the development and
application of new multivariate analysis approaches such as independent
component analyses to be applied to fMRI data and assess their
relationships with other imaging modalities.
The successful candidate will be welcomed in the Inserm Unit E0218 / U923
directed by Francis Eustache and Béatrice Desgranges, and located at the
Cyceron PET/MRI Center in Caen, France. The successful applicant will join
a large multidisciplinary team (including scientists, engineer,
technicians, doctors, psychologists, and PhD students) focusing much of
its research on the cerebral bases of human memory and its disorders using
complementary neuropsychological and neuroimaging techniques including MRI
(3T) and FDG-PET. This position offers the opportunity to work in a high
quality research environment, with strong clinical and scientific
collaboration.
Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant area of neuroimage processing,
be comfortable with the Unix operating system, and demonstrate knowledge
and experience in computational MRI processing and
mathematical/statistical modelling/analysis. We are seeking an applicant
with solid grounding in applied mathematics, statistics, and neuroimaging
data acquisition and analysis, with demonstrated productivity, as well as
programming skills (MATLAB, C++). Good English language skills, good
communication skills and an interest in multidisciplinary teamwork are
required.
Salary: 1900 euros / month, net

SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential criteria:
• A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area of neuroimage processing;
• Previous experience with neuroimaging data acquisition, processing
and analysis;
• Demonstrated mathematical/statistical expertise and experience in
applications in neuro-image modelling/analysis;
• Demonstrated programming expertise and fluency in C/C++ and/or
Matlab programming language;
• Good organizational and planning skills;
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of team as well
as independently;
Preferred criteria
• Available for two years at least from Mars/April 2008, although
the schedule could be adapted in particular situation;
• Demonstrated experience in working with patients and competency in
research within a clinical environment;
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, including preparation
of scientific presentations, reports and journal articles;
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
