Hi Jean,

Well, since I first raised the concern a few months back, I've had a
huge response from numerous box manufacturers, and tested a number of
boxes for a criteria of strength, size, cost, formation, sustainable
resource materials, etc..

Apart from having a room full of different archive boxes, I also feel
educated in the field of "Box science"!

Overall I have found there are better boxes on the market, and a
significantly cheaper price! One major factor was our Health and safety
weight limit of 10kg per box.

To populate the cubic capacity of a Fellowes R-Kive box actually
exceeded the weight restriction. Indeed, to under-fill the box to 10kg
posed a further risk of weight movement within the container. The idea
of extending the height of the box appears to extend this problem?

Therefore we are looking at creating slightly slimmer boxes, therefore
reducing the temptation of over-filling and maximising our storage
areas.

As sad as I sound, I feel there may be some value in creating a common
standard for archive box dimensions, to meet our business need and
facilitate the Health & Safety requirements?

If any former R-Kive box users are interested in such a project let me
know off-list.

Best Regards,
Tom

Hi everybody

Our purchasing manager has been in touch with Fellowes and had the
response below. As you see, we shall source elsewhere just now, and I
shall be writing to Fellowes as suggested. I'd be interested to know who
wants high boxes - big enough for lever arch perhaps?

Many thanks to all of you who responded so quickly on this subject.

Regards

Jean

Hi Jean,

I have been in contact with Fellowes, and enquired as to why they
changed the dimensions of the storage boxes, they carried out a survey
with their customer base and it was decided to go for the larger size.

They did advise us to voice our concerns by sending an e-mail of
complaint, and that if the response back was large enough, they might
consider reverting back to the old size.
The code for the boxes = Premium 00729

E-mail address = [log in to unmask]

If you were to pass this on to your colleagues for them to send a
complaint, then this might help to revert their decision.

In the mean time, we are trying to source an alternative.

Regards,

Mike
