Hi,
For those of us interested in the technology around untrained
computer-based voice recognition, there is a very interesting link:
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20071218/011528.shtml
The story is that Google is deploying its GOOG-411 service as a money
losing proposition in order to harvest a wide range of phonemes from
various regions and backgrounds mapped to a wide range of words. This
dataset will provide a very useful database for doing speech to text
development. It is still not much use to those of us doing work in
classrooms or other noisy, multi-speaker environments, but it's still
pretty cool.
