OK, I've changed my mind about absenting myself from the topic. I'm
usually all for open discussion. In this case I think we're between a
rock and a hard place. I'm not afraid of anything but the list
self-destructing, and I'm having a hard time seeing a whole lot of
possibilities that will allow it to repair itself and move on.
Myself, I don't really care if JG is on the list or not. The delete
button works just fine. Though, given the number of times I had to
use it, the list seemed to have become the JG list with a few extras.
But let's for argument's sake suppose that we had an open discussion
(among the few members who have expressed an interest), and that Anny
were to admit that her action was arbitrary. What choices does that open?
a. Anny resigns and the list is rudderless. Someone of equal
experience and dedication is persuaded to take over. Good luck.
b. There's a palace coup, and a party to the dispute takes over.
Unless it's a younger Nelson Mandela, the tenor of the list changes
and becomes uncomfortable for many of us.
c. JG in either event comes back, and the list topic for the next
however long becomes postmortem resentments or triumphant crowing.
It seems to me that we're faced with an impossible situation, and it
seems to me likely that forcing any of these choices would be
destructive. It may be that the best alternative, the one that least
threatens the list's survival, is to give Anny a pass on this and go
on with business as usual. I'm open to other suggestions.
Let's remember that the list managed to survive a former listowner
outing a member in public, a truly inexcusable action, and there was
hardly a murmur of complaint. The outed party wasn't removed from the
list, but left in the face of humiliation. And the list somehow found
its feet again.
