It was badly publicized, with much more stress laid on the provincial
Washington DC artists participating in the project than the internationally-
visible one. I remember asking one of the two curators why the two poems
which were displayed by a truck (with projection screens on either side)
parked outside of the newest "art building" were chosen, when they had
absolutely nothing to do with art (and a lot to do with tokenism). Of
course she had no answer. Usually, one of the perverse benefits of living
here is: no crowds to fight when I want to catch someone of high quality
from out of town (as long as they don't resonante with current pop culture
buzz). But in this case I saw no advertisement or critical coverage in the
media I sort, and eventually when it was too late a less-than-postcard size
announcement of the Jenny Holzer piece on a back table at one of the
galleries in that same art building.
