Hum. This seems drastic, and unprepared. What makes this development seem
incongruous, Anny, is that recent posts have seemed pretty benign. The case
for banning would have been more obvious a while back.
I'm not going to fall in with all the other comments and say that I can't
imagine why this has occurred. In the recent dispute between the erstwhile
list manager and the present subject I was inclined to take the former's
part, and indeed was enjoying the debate he was stimulating. I couldn't help
feeling, though, that he was feeding the troll -- asking for it and getting
it, if you see what I mean.
If it isn't you that's getting it, you're bound to react in ways more to do
with your opinion of the trend of the argument, which tends to refract
whatever empathy the exchange might generate. What complicates that picture,
however, is that some people enjoy the spectacle. But a skilfully executed
ad hominem attack is still an ad hominem attack.
