Dear list,
I've recently started work in a new distribution centre for a supermarket
chain. In the last week the chilled warehouse has dropped its temperature
from 2 to 0 degrees to accommodate the Christmas turkey deliveries. The
temperature will revert to 2 degrees after Christmas.
The shift manager has had over a dozen complaints of workers experiencing
symptoms including mildly swollen faces, rashes on upper and lower legs
and headaches. All of these have been reported since the temperature was
dropped and the manager reports that all cases are from "honest, genuine
workers" (his words).
Upper body PPE is adequate, but they've only just (today) introduced
thermal leggings as the trousers currently provided are unlined/unpadded.
Other than the PPE route, can anyone offer any possible solutions please?
All workers have been screened and present with no underlying medical
conditions.
I'm about to trawl the internet for solutions but any advice you might
have would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Andy
