Does anyone else think that the world's gone mad???? While I appreciate
there is always an element of health and safety risk with Christmas
decorations, my personal view, especially on paediatric and acute
elderly wards, is that the benefits of decorations, cards and other
festive treats far outweigh the infection control/health & safety issues
and I for one will be going the whole hog and decorating the department
up as festively as I can! I know we don't deal with patients per se, but
the Christmas Spirit is alive and well and should be encouraged! I have
spent time as an in-patient over Christmas and it was lovely to see the
effort the staff made to create a festive atmosphere.
Anyway, I'll stop there, as I seem to have misplaced my Grumpy Old
Nurse hat!!!
Kind regards,
Rita

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] FW: Christmas Decorations
As we get into the season for good will etc,
I would welcome any evidence to support our trusts efforts to raise
morale
and instil some Christmas cheer.
My first lit search drew a blank on Christmas infection risks!
Thanks Campbell

It has been agreed at Matron's Charter Group that the following will be
the
protocol for Christmas 2007 to facilitate cleaning and infection
control:
Clinical areas will only be permitted to have one decorated Christmas
tree,
no other types of decoration are to be displayed. The trees can be
installed from 23rd December until 28th December inclusive. Likewise
Christmas cards can be displayed for the same period only.
