Subject: Persian newspapers from the Constitutional Period
Persian newspapers from the Constitutional period
We have recently been notified about a series of reprint volumes of
Iranian newspapers dating from the Constitutional period and earlier
which have become available to purchase. I have pasted in below the
list as I received it. The approximate value of the whole collection
comes to GBP 7500 to 8000, with individual volumes priced at between
GBP 60 and 80.
On the basis of several volumes we recently purchased, these volumes
would appear to be printed from microfilms of material in the National
Library of Iran. The printed version is also published by the National
Library. I was told that the Library had reprinted these titles in a
very small edition on account of not being able to allocate space for
spare stock, and this was the reason that they were more expensive than
one might have expected. This present collection belongs to an
individual who I think is hoping to sell it as a collection, or to
several purchasers if there are enough people interested.
We would be interested in getting some of these titles , especially
Habl al-Matin, but funding is an issue! Would any other MELCOM members
be interested in purchasing any of these volumes, or do they have
existing holdings of any titles. I have checked through the MELCOM
Union list of Persian serial and newspapers and also on CURL, but
nothing much comes up. Unfortunately UK holdings for this important
period is very limited.
If anyone is interested, or knows anything more about this series, can
they let me know?

NB No 40; "Miscellaneous" of the list includes approximately one
hundred titles of the first issues of the newspapers which were
published in Iran before 1326 hijri qamari. The reason for this is that
the first issue of each newly published newspaper was thought to
indicate the ideology and direction of the publisher/publishers which
would be useful from the point of view of research.
