Just my tuppence.... but do you know what people actually use the HER
for...
A lot of HERs provide access to information... but why.. is a good
question to ask... and how easy is it...
for example, can you ask questions that don't need you to know exactly the
SMR number? (I would guess if you know that, then you probabbly don't need
to look at teh HER online) or can you search for a general term rather than
have to know the approved MIDAS compliant term... as the general public
will want to just ask questions such as show me Roman Forts... and not want
to have to mention that they mean fortlets and watch towers etc... or
Hillforts should include multivallate etc...
Many HERs online provide information ... but do they offer an experieince
that moulds to teh user? the school kid learning about their county... the
student researching a specific area.. the interested public finding out
whats on offer in their area.. or a teacher looking for resources? and of
course the professional who actually does want to drill deep into the data.
So could you ask not only how they came... but why they came and if they
found what they looked for......?
BAJR will continue to advertise all online HERs .. and next year I will be
pushing them more...
