Now I have no idea if things are gonna change drastically in the
non-principal market but I first did locums in 1989 and have been doing
locums off and on since 2000 now. I do have the advantage of more work
offers in Canada than I can handle but nevertheless, I get more offers
from N Ireland, England and Scotland than I can handle.
From my particular point of view, despite all the dire predictions of
np work vanishing, doesn't seem to have happened. Nor have the other
dire predictions of having to accept less money for more work---I am
sure it is totally coincidental that work offers _seem_ to have
increased as I put up my rates. Seriously, I do think that is coincidental.
My point is that freelance GP work may be a different ball game entirely
from employee pharmacists. I don't think Paul was suggesting going cap
in hand to the PCT and asking for a job.
