Capita Symonds wishes to recruit a GIS Graduate to provide support to our 
dynamic GIS team based in Bristol.

Our background

Capita Symonds is a multi-disciplinary consultancy, employing 3,700 staff 
in over 41 offices throughout the UK. Our parent company is Capita Group, 
a FTSE100 listed company with annual turnover of £2bn and the market 
leader in business processing outsourcing.

Our GIS team in Bristol works as part of a national Water Environment and 
Environment team, and also provides GIS support to Transport, Planning, 
Geotechnology and Engineering teams. Due to a continuing expansion in 
workload we are seeking to recruit a GIS Technician who can to provide 
support to our existing team and grow into this interesting, exciting and 
challenging role. 

Your background

You will be educated to degree level in Information Technology or 
Geographical Sciences. You will have a good general standard of education, 
particularly in Maths and English. 

Good Microsoft computer skills are essential as is an aptitude for data 
management, logical thinking and an attention to detail.

Direct GIS experience is highly desirable (ESRI or MAPINFO).  

The GIS team works predominantly in the Environment sector, so an 
understanding or direct experience of current environmental affairs would 
be very beneficial.

Duties and requirements
You will be working as a member of the Environment team who are engaged in 
a range of projects in Ecology, Transport and Water Environment sectors.
Your role will involve undertaking technical tasks in data collection, 
data entry and manipulation, analysis, map and drawing production and 
assisting with site survey and inspection work.
 
You will be working closely with our senior professionals and other 
technical staff and will be provided with full training in GIS, Data 
Management and, in time, Digital Terrain Modelling.

In addition you will be expected to undertake the following tasks;
·	Provide timely and accurate time and expense recording
·	Comply with all relevant company policies and procedures
·	Attend all relevant training courses, including technical courses, 
health and safety, business management etc as assigned by your team leader
·	Apply diligence, honesty and professionalism in all aspects of 
your behaviour

Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be directly responsible for;
·	Create and revise maps, models for internal and external clients 
in public and private sectors
·	Help support  the GIS team within the wider business 
·	Working within projects teams to provide GIS support to the time 
and quality standards specified by the project manager
·	Working pro-actively alongside existing GIS staff to solve 
technical challenges and improve your personal skill set
·	Maintain excellent data management standards

This position will require occasional travel to client sites, so a clean 
driving license is essential.
