Hi Duncan,
I'm afraid I'm not working with the VMWare-Player anymore. Back then I tried the .vmx entries listed below as was indicated by similar posts in VMWare's support forums. Finally I quit trying when I noticed that installing "VMWare-tools" inside the guest is additionally required. Unfortunately these tools are not included in the VMPlayer 2.0 for Windows (if you want to run a Linux guest inside Windows). For some reason by the way they are provided in the VMPlayer for Linux (which is of no avail in the case of FSLvm inside Windows). A solution to obtain and install the tools for a Linux guest (inside Windows) is also described by various posts: first obtain VMWare Server or a trial version of VMWare workstation and get the tools out simply by unpacking and mounting the corresponding .iso file (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/86011) and second install the tools as documented in the manuals (something like "vmware-config-tools.pl" from the command line; http://www.vmware.com/products/beta/vmware_server/vmserver2.pdf).
To avoid all this, is it possible to design the FSLvm with the VMWare-tools package integrated?
Keep me informed on this!
Mirko

Could you send a copy of your config file and the log file that gets
created in the VM directory (file that ends '.log').
