The discussion by Ekwall of Driffield and Dirtham (Etymological notes (1959), p 43) may be relevant here. He suggests a complimentary name 'well-manured, fertile land'.
I also wonder if the Quidhampton names might contain the short-vowel variant of OE cwead (not distinguished in B-T, but see OED s.v. qued), with the meaning 'evil, hostile'.
