I have used Betty Edwards for years for both adults and children. Excellent results.

Have you looked at Betty Edwards - Drawing on the Right Side of your
Brain. It is really for adults, but I use it at school
(secondary). There is a recent reprinted edition with a workbook
and I think it is excellent.
