Review of Disability Studies: An International Journal is searching for
guest editors for its special forums. Special forums run for 1-2
issues (about 50 pp. each) on disability topics of the guest editor's
choice. Editors are responsible for developing an RFP through which to
solicit abstracts, disseminating it widely, submitting essays from the
abstracts, and making and editing the final selections.
Recent and forthcoming forums are devoted to such subjects as disaster,
travel, and music. Back issues and submission criteria are online at
rds.hawaii.edu. RDS is the only general interest disability
studies journal in the United States that appears in both print and
online versions. Selection alternates between fully refereed general
interest issues and guest-edited special forums.
When developing a proposal and RFP, the following are considered highly
desirable:
1) Preference will be given to editorial teams over single editors
2) The inclusion of at least one editor from beyond the US is
viewed most favorably
3) The best editorial teams will typically have interdisciplinary
breadth as well as disciplinary depth
4) Editors are expected to work with emerging authors, including
those from beyond academia, to nurture scholarship.
Submissions that are "diamonds in the rough" are to be encouraged, with
editorial assistance dispensed generously and gladly.
Please email ideas for forums and cv's of all prospective editors to
Alex Lubet at [log in to unmask] Editors/topics selected will be asked
to develop RFPs and special forums will be chosen on the basis of these.
