The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) funds teaching and research in universities and colleges. We seek to provide the opportunity of Higher Education (HE) to all those who could benefit from it, including those from under-represented groups. Analysts have a vital part to play in our work. We have three Analyst opportunities in which you will collate and analyse data from the institutions we fund, enabling you to liaise with these institutions effectively and allow HEFCE to develop policy and monitor the funding that we receive and, in turn, distribute. All roles represent an excellent opportunity to build on your education and experience to apply your skills in a supportive, progressive environment.
You could join us in one of the following three roles within our Analytical Services Group (ASG):
Role 1: You will be involved in the monitoring of the data that institutions provide to us. You will use this analysis as the basis for liaison with higher education institutions, working in a team to investigate problems and build solutions.
Role 2 : You will focus your energies on developing new systems to collect, analyse and document data used to develop policy and inform funding. You will be using a variety of packages and investigating the benefits of new technology. You will ensure ASG's operations are supported working closely with HEFCE's IT team.
Role 3: You will play an active and key role in the distribution of more than £1.4 billion of funding for research, annually. This will involve calculating the research grants to universities and colleges, and supporting policy development by producing a wide range of analyses and management information. You will also be involved in collecting and analysing data to inform research allocations.
You should have a good higher education qualification in an analytical subject, and an aptitude for quantitative analysis, data manipulation and statistical modelling and it's also important that you have confident communication and interpersonal skills. You are highly numerate and analytical, comfortable analysing and interpreting a large volume of data and communicating the results, often personally to the Higher Education sector and should enjoy building relationships and working with others.
Appropriate training will be provided. Committed to your professional development, we'll give you every opportunity to gain experience of new systems and software. We'll also encourage you to develop your professional skills. As well as work that will make a difference to the future of Higher Education, in an environment where your ideas are listened to and acted upon, our benefits package includes a contributory pension scheme and 25 days' annual leave.
