Subject: latesnap - no snow this winter
in heaven, stars are insects
crawling or swimming.
they do not scald, but blind
with God's angry light shining
through their tiny, hungry mouths¯
their bronze shells & gold-metal husks
don't keep the blaze secret, but slither & clink
when their wings purr to be unfurled,
dangerous ladybirds
feeding on crumbs of galaxies
& sieved sins that sparkle like clouded moons¯
as pets they are tremulous,
sweet but still feral
with the early cataclysm's glow.
the night sky, telescoped by our fathoming
& imagination's map,
might be animal graveyards,
or angelic lookout camps,
or insect-stars mimicking our traffic.
